-JAYANT MUNDHRA
I was recently surfing through websites like ScoopWhoop.com,
Quora.com, and TheLogicalIndian.com etc. And, I came across various ironies
that exist in our land of endless cultures, traditions and myths and legends. Lets check out some...
1. “If you want to know How divided we are, just go and look
at the Matrimonial Page of any newspaper”.
This one was a thought provoking one. It actually made me think about how we
ourselves segregate the society and
confine ourselves to certain traditions and cultures. Is it necessary to have
separate columns for the brides/grooms of Sindhi / Muslim / Hindu / Sikh /
Christian or some other community?
2. “India is an incredible country where, Actors are playing
cricket, Cricketers are playing politics, Politicians are watching porn, and,
Porn-stars are becoming actresses”.
CAUTION : If you are a Sachin Tendulkar fan, then please don’t
get offended as I have got no wrong
intentions.
Although, I must say that what is the need to get into
politics and become a Rajya Sabha member when you are not going to attend any
sessions at the meetings of the UPPER HOUSE of the INDIAN CONSTITUTION ?
Also, I would like to bring out another irony. “Long back a
female was raped. Our so called respectable society VICTIMIZED her, and she had
to face utter defamation. So, she moved to Canada and joined Adult-Filmographic
industry. And, all of a sudden she bags a role in a Bollywood movie. She
becomes a Bollywood actress and the people of same society now are among her
countless fan-following. Isn’t it one of the best examples of irony in Indian
society?
Anyways, moving onto the next one…
3. “Ours is a country where every Muslim has to keep proving that he is patriotic and every Hindu has to
keep proving that he is secular”.
This one makes me feel
pretty low about being a part of the society in which your religion presides
over your intentions and beliefs. Why does a Muslim or a Hindu have to their patriotic
or secular beliefs ?
4. “If someone uses English Slangs, it’s cool. But, if the
same person uses Hindi Slangs, it’s cheap and unsophisticated”.
This one truly baffles me. If you are abusing someone, it’s
cheap and unsophisticated anyway. So, why this branding, based on the
linguistics of the words uttered? Does it really make a difference?
The problem is not just about the slangs. Today, people prefer english over hindi in almost every aspect. Is it really needed in our society ? Why can't use of both languages be promoted and not just one of them ? Ask yourselves.
5. “A black cat crossing the road can halt the traffic much
more efficiently as compared to red traffic lights”.
Again, a hilarious one. They say that if a black cat is crossing the
road, it’s inauspicious.
But, What if you jump a red light and a car comes and hits
you from your right or vice-versa? Won’t
that be inauspicious? If not for sake of your life, at least follow the traffic
rules for the sake of your family.
Because for them, you
to be hit by a car is definitely going to be inauspicious.
6. “India is a country that produces as many engineers (in 5
years of time) as is the entire population of Switzerland. Yet, on the Global Innovation Index, India
stands at 76th position while Switzerland holds 1st
position ”.
Hilarious, but Thought-Provoking. An engineer’s job is to
create such sustainable technology that
can take the world to an upper edge towards knowing the actual potential of the
Human Mind and reduce the difficulties faced by the people in today’s world.
This clearly brings us to the point, “Are
we creating the mechanics who will replicate the things created by others OR
are we creating engineers who will create and innovate things that will be
copied and implemented by others ?”.
There is a lot to think about, learn and then implement in
the real world. Do share your views with me and other readers in the comments section below. And, do share any other irony, that you believe exists in this society. ( And, these are just my views on some issues. I don't intent to offend anyone. )
Create a better world to live in.
